When Nelly was born, her family expected to bring their precious baby girl home. Instead, she was diagnosed with Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), a serious condition that made it difficult for her lungs to adjust to life outside the womb. She spent her first several weeks of life in the NICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she fought each day to grow stronger and breathe on her own.
During her hospitalization, Nelly’s family faced the emotional and financial challenges that so many NICU families know all too well. Time away from work, caring for children at home, travel, and everyday expenses added to an already overwhelming season. Through it all, they leaned on their faith, the support of their community, and the hope that Nelly would continue making progress each day.
Daniel’s Dreams was honored to come alongside Nelly’s family by providing financial assistance to help ease some of those burdens, along with a care package filled with reminders that they were being prayed for and deeply cared about.
Today, Nelly is home with her family, and we continue to pray that she grows stronger with each passing day. It is a privilege to support families like theirs during some of life’s most difficult moments and to remind them that they never have to walk the journey alone.
Every family supported through Daniel’s Dreams receives more than financial assistance. They also receive a care package filled with items that hold special meaning to Daniel’s life. Each package includes a stuffed giraffe just like the one that was always by Daniel’s side, a copy of “Good Night Baby Bear”, the book read to Daniel throughout his NICU stay, and a set of prayer cards written by Daniel’s mom and dad. Each card is filled with a short devotional, bible verse, encouragement, and reminders that no family walks this journey alone—words written from firsthand experience that every NICU parent needs to hear.
Daniel’s Dreams supports families in the Phoenix, Arizona area whose children are currently, or have recently been, long-term hospitalized due to critical illness. We provide meaningful financial support toward medical bills while sharing hope and faith, allowing parents to focus on what matters most — loving, supporting, and being present with their children during difficult hospital stays.
